So our Yellowstone adventure started out with a bang. As we entered the park from the east entrance we were almost immediately welcomed and at the same time ran off the road by two herds of bison and a lone buck elk. Then we made camp in the cold darkness and bundled ourselves to sleep. We awoke to find a light dusting of snow on our tent, and a wake up call from the park ranger telling us that we could expect another 12 inches in the next 48 hours. They close the campsite on us and we made a run for lower elevation. Along the way to the north entrance we made the most of it by spending time at the thermal pools and random geysers. All were beautiful in there own right. Lucky enough to see a lot more wild life. That night we stayed in a motel and "camped" making the most of the "john kitchen" and the heater. Turns out after the first snow fall a lot of the animals make there way down from the mountains due to the cold, good for us especially since we like animals. On the last day we went on a five mile hike in the snow and really enjoyed following the fresh tracks of the local mountain lion and the random slips and slides the snow cover trail provided us the hiker. The cold weather seems to be here to stay. To see a night with highs of 14F is not uncommon. Next stop Glacier NP, north of Yellowstone and yes even colder.
